Youth in Action

Youth in Action Teams

Youth in Action Teams are a project of the Garrett County Health Department and the Garrett County Public Schools. There is a Youth in Action Team at Northern High School, Northern Middle School, Southern High School, and Southern Middle School. The purpose of these youth teams is to empower and encourage other students to consider the impact of their choices on their friends, families, and community. Youth in Action Team members ask their peers to learn the facts, make the best decisions, and help their friends to do the same.

The funds to support Youth in Action Teams come from a mix of funding sources and their activities and projects focus on prevention of :

• Tobacco Use–including smokeless tobacco, cigarettes and vaping devices
• Alcohol Use–including underage drinking, drinking and driving, and binge drinking
• Opioid and Prescription Drug Misuse and Abuse
• Obesity–complicated by unhealthy eating and sedentary lifestyles.
